The Small Kingdom of Ben and Holly is a cartoon for young children aired on Rai YoYo.

It was produced in 2009 in the UK by the same studio that created Peppa Pig, and throughout the episodes there are numerous cross-references between the two series. In fact, in some episodes of the cute pink pig, drawings depicting Ben and Holly can be seen.

Who are Ben and Holly?

They are, respectively, an elf and a fairy. Holly is a princess, daughter of King Thistle of the Little Kingdom, and she lives in the Little Castle. Ben, on the other hand, is a child elf who lives in an apartment in the Great Elf Tree. The two are best friends and together they have fun adventures in the Little Kingdom.

In addition to the main characters Ben and Holly, many characters live in the Little Kingdom.

The Old and Wise Elf, a gruff but gifted elder with vast intelligence and culture. A professor at the elf school and director of the toy factory, he hates magic and always tries to discourage its use.

Tata Susina is the housekeeper of the Little Castle. She often comes into conflict with the Old and Wise Elf with whom she gives rise to very funny scenes.

Gaston, a ladybug often used by Ben to fly over the Little Kingdom. His lair is always in disarray and is sometimes used by Ben and Holly as a refuge when they transvest as superheroes, Fairy Girl and Elf Man.

Mr. Elf and Mrs. Elf, are Ben’s parents. Mr. Elf is a letter carrier and former sailor.

King Thistle and Queen Thistle, are the rulers of the Little Kingdom, parents of Holly and the pestiferous twins Daisy and Poppy.

Lucy, is a child of the “big people,” a friend of Ben and Holly, and one of the few who knows about the existence of elves and fairies.

Fragolina, is a fairy and Holly’s best friend.

Judgment about Ben and Holly

Ben and Holly is a beautiful cartoon. The setting of the Little Kingdom is meant to teach children to love and respect nature. The differences between elves and fairies are also remarkable, the former for example hate magic, while the latter cannot help but use it, yet they all live in harmony respecting each other.
