History
The story of Playmobil is the story of millions of children who have grown up with the legendary plastic men since the mid-1970s.
With the 1974 oil crisis, toy manufacturers had to cope with the resulting rise in raw material prices. As early as 1970 Hans Beck, production manager of Geobra-Brandstätter, had come up with a new line of toys, small in size but innovative and fun. From the beginning, Playmobil toys could move their heads, legs, and arms, and later their hands to interact with a wide range of accessories. The first Playmobil toys were male-only subjects, the first female character was introduced in 1976, and children, 2cm smaller than adults, followed in 1981.
It was immediately a resounding success.
